Every four years we celebrate the opening of the House, The ‘Swearing-In’ of newly elected members, into the House of Assembly, February 25, 2021, on Grand Turk. The capital of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
This is a time when locals truly appreciate a custom-made outfit. If it’s not locally made, then it’s not considered an expensive piece to talk about. It’s a tradition passed on from one generation to the other.
It was an array of fashion displayed by the diplomats; first wives, politicians, and other members of parliament.
Dark colors are usually worn at these events, but this time those demure colors took a turn, with the emergence of different shades of champagne on the color wheel spectrum. These shades of champagne were the highlight of the event. Hats, fascinators, gloves, and brooches were the adornments of the day. This time one new accessory that was added, deemed a must have, was the mask.
The matching masks were mandatory, but the positive with this accessory, was that it pushed the boundaries with the eye shadows.
Here are a few pictures that I took, while attending the event.
